Birthday Month?

Birthday week/Best week ever is officially over. I tried to pull the whole birthday month card, but J said he refused. Eh, worth a shot I guess. :)

I had such an amazing time this weekend. Amanda came down on Friday and we had lots of friend time! Man if she lived in Atlanta we would have so much fun all the time. Kelli and Katie came in on Saturday morning and we all (Me, Manda, Kelli, Katie, J, and Sean) spent the day at Piedmont Park! My birthday present from God this year (other than life) was the gorgeous weather! We had dinner at Flip (Tin Lizzy's was our first choice, but a 2 hour wait was not ideal.) Leigh, Pfef, and Hogan met us there. Such great friends!

(I need to learn to take pictures more, I have zero from this weekend)

This coming weekend (well Thursday really) I'm headed to the beach with Gini and Leigh and some of Gini's coworkers. It should be fun, minus the whole possibility of being in a swim suit. I pulled out some of my swimsuits last night. Did I put them on? Absolutely not. Instead I watched tv avoiding going to the gym, ate icecream, and laid on the couch. Awesome beach prep Erin...

I need to find motivation to workout. I need to want to go to the gym and be fit, but at the same time I do not want to feel like I HAVE to. I'm going to try to lay out a workout schedule for myself and see how that works out. I'll let you know how it goes. If you have suggestions let me know. Atleast if nothing else I have to start running. I have a race end of March and 2 in May. (Elizabeth ask me about the March race, it's in Bham!) 3 5Ks and my goal is no stopping........ I have high hopes.

Valentine's Day

If there is one thing that people always find out about me is that my favorite holiday is Valentine's Day. I just love it, always have, always will. Single, dating, whatever I just love this day. Most people question me and refuse to believe that no matter my relationship status, this day will always be my favorite holiday. Other people question my reasons for why I love this holiday, is it because you like flowers and candy and gifts? My response is always, does there always have to be a ulterior motive for loving something?

So here it is, my reasons for loving a holiday that so many people hate.

Valentine's Day has always been a holiday that my family has celebrated. No we don't go all out or decorate the house or anything crazy, but we definitely recognized the day. From as far off as I can remember I always woke up on Valentine's Day to a flower from my dad. A single red rose, always with baby's breath. With the rose is always a card that reads "From the Man who loved you first." I am not sure if there is ever an end to this tradition, but I hope that day never comes. I have started keeping the cards and saving them. I'm hoping to make a collage or shadow box at some point in my life.

My mom has also been a fun Valentine's Day mom. We always get little nic-nac things. When we were little it was fun toys, now it is usualy something she thinks we will like. Never very expensive, but always from the heart which I love. Now yes I know this goes against my flower and gift thing, but it isn't the gift that I love so much, it is the heart that is behind it.

Another reason for Valentine's Day being a favorite is because of another childhood tradition, Daddy Daughter Date night. My sister, my Dad and I would get all dressed up in our favorite Sunday dresses (or for my dad, his favorite kahakis and white shirt with blue blazer) and we would spend the night eating, drinking punch, and dancing to favorites like YMCA. Oh yea, we were the best dancers out there. I remember how sad I was when they told me I was too old to go anymore. Shoot, I'm right at 24 and I would totally still go dance the night away with my Dad. Silly rules.

I love the attitude that some people get when talking about Valentine's Day. The people that can see past the gifts, all the hearts, red and pink everywhere, flowers, teddy bears, and chocolates see the real reason for Valentine's Day. Valentine's Day puts love in the spotlight. Not always love between a husband and wife, or boyfriend and girlfriend. It can be love of friends, family, pets, whatever. It is a day to celebrate the concept of love with the people you love. Whether you celebrate with a date or with a group of friends, this day is all about love.

Next year I will love Valentine's Day, in 10 years I will love Valentine's Day, 30 years yep still going to love it.

I hope you all enjoyed your Valentine's Day as much as I did. J and I had a wonderful Valentine's Day. Next time you think of Valentine's Day as "Single's Awareness Day" think of all the other people in your life that you love and that love you. No one can be upset about that!

Alright, Alright

I havent blogged since the snow day, so I have lots to update.

I went to Birmingham last weekend to visit Katie and Kelli for Katie's Birthday. It was so much fun. I swear I'm not sure how these girls and I were not closer friends in college. Such great girls. Katie and I went out to dinner with Elizabeth, Jessica and their husbands. I definitely don't see them enough so it was great to catch up on life. After dinner we went to 2 bars and people watched. Katie is just as bad as I am at people watching.... It is just so fun to watch drunk people do stupid things like twirling a chair in the air before sitting next to a cute girl or taking a shot from an empty shot glass. I know I know, I shouldn't judge, but it was hilarious.

Saturday, we spent most of the day at Railroad Park a fun oark in downtown Birmingham. We were the only 3 at the park there drinking so we were obviously having a great time. And just for future knowledge, if you want to hear some good solid parenting advice, stop by Railroad Park. It's hilarious. We had dinner at a barbeque place with Kelli's man friend (really nice guy) and then headed out for our night out which ended up being a pretty early night as we were so tired and a little above the average age in the club.

Sunday I headed to see my grandmother and Aunt before heading home. J was back from Park City so I picked him up at the airport and we headed to dinner and spent some time together.

Monday I had to get all packed up because Tuesday I was on the road again, well this time more like flying. I had to go to Southern California for work to visit some clients and prospects. For the record, I don't see the appeal of Los Angeles (the first city we were in). It was ok, but not impressive. Maybe I just saw the wrong part of town. San Diego on the other hand is gorgeous. I loved it. I don't think I would want to live there (everything is SOO overpriced), but it is definitely a place I want to visit again some day.

We flew back last night, which definitely was not the end of my adventure. I paid for my parking inside the airport and then headed to the car. Got all my bags in and click click click... my battery was dead. Sweet. I'm in economy parking, the weather is gross, I'm surrounded by other parked cars and my battery is dead. I called J who told me to find someone, not a sketchy someone) to help me. Thankfully this nice nice man was getting into his car behind me and he helped me push my car out of my parking spot and jumped me off. SOO thankful for that nice man from Forsyth County.

Don't worry my adventure wasn't done there, I head towards the exit and realize, I can't find my parking ticket. Is this real life? Thankfully I still had the receipt I got after I paid so I went to the cashier and spent the next 10 minutes backing up traffic and pissing off other drivers who were trying to get home at 9:00 on a Thursday night. Eventually, she let me through. Still not all though. While I was looking for my parking ticket I noticed my gas light was on and remembered it had come on when I was driving to the airport. Sweet, so I had to stop in sketchville (not exactly the safest place and no that isnt the real name) to get gas. Now remember my battery was just jumped off so I couldn't turn the car off. I pumped gas (wondering if my car would blow up since it was still on) and noticed this man circling the parking lot and my car. He kept trying to talk to me (I was on the phone with my Mom). He wanted me to drive him to Decatur. Are you crazy old man? You realize I'm a young girl in a part of town I obviously don't belong and you want me to drive you, a stranger, to Decatur. Absolutely not.

Eventually, I made it home. Thank goodness. This weekend I want to do very little. Next weekend I will be in Auburn for family birthday time. We have a bunch of birthdays around the same time (My Aunt Jenny's is late January, my grandmothers is Friday (the 11th) My brother Caleb's is Friday (the 11th), Mom's is Saturday(the 12th)and mine is the Saturday after (the 19th)) so we have a family dinner to celebrate! So exciting! Then comes my second favorite day of the year Valentines! Ahh the next few weeks will be amazing!

Sorry this was long. I will try to keep this updated more often!
